Varsity Hockey v. Governor's Academy
Hebron matched up against a very strong Governor’s Academy team to start their prep school season.
A flat start by the Lumberjacks allowed the Gov’s to take a 1-0 lead just a minute into the game. Hebron battled back however, and the play was back and forth for much of the remainder of the first period. Hebron tied up the game early in the second period with a nice second effort goal by Kailey Bubier, assisted by Natalie Maciejewski. The play was tight for much of the period before Governor’s scored two goals in under a minute to pull away 3-1. Sarah Markey answered to narrow the lead, but Governor’s rebounded with two more goals in the final minute of the second period to take a 5-2 lead into the break. Hebron worked hard in the third period and had several more scoring opportunities. Kailey Bubier found the net off of a rebound from Brittany Toth’s shot, but it proved to too little too late as Governor’s skated to a 5-3 win. Mariah Mosher played a sound game in goal stopping a number of point blank shots and controlling rebounds well. Hebron showed their youth in the game, but also made it clear that the team has a lot of potential and will be looking to improve greatly as the season goes on.
