In addition to their curricular and athletic commitments, Hebron students are encouraged to get involved in the life of the school in a variety of ways that benefit the community as a whole.
Proctors
Student proctors are selected by residential faculty each spring from the junior class to serve during their senior year. They lead by their example and help set the tone for the Hebron Academy community.
Proctors live on campus and have specific duties. Each morning, they are responsible for taking attendance at Morning Meeting. In the evening, they perform a preliminary check in and help fellow students get prepared for study hall, and then help maintain order during study hall. On chore night, proctors ensure that the work is done to keep the dorms in order. Proctors also monitor activity in the student union (on a rotating schedule).
In general, proctors are expected to adhere closely to Hebron's expectations for conduct, to help maintain order, to encourage others to take care of their surroundings, to get involved in activities in the dorms, and to treat their fellow students with respect. They look out for students who might need a shoulder to lean on or some extra help. They work collaboratively with residence hall faculty and the community life team to ensure that the school year is enjoyable and productive for everyone.
Student Organizations
There are several opportunities on campus for students to get involved in activities, to contribute to the school community, and to enhance their leadership skills:
- Green Key (Admissions ambassadors and tour guides)
- Student Government
- Math Team
- Yearbook
- Gay-Straight Alliance
- Community Service
- Outing Club
- Dance Club
Community Action
Hebron Academy's community action initiative encourages students to understand their responsibility to take active roles in supporting their community, within and beyond the campus.
- Campus Care Program: Hebron students and faculty assist the staff in caring for the common spaces we all use, including classrooms and dining hall. The work is valued, important, and shared equally by all.
- Go-Green Initiative: Hebron Academy is working to reduce our campus’s carbon footprint through recycling, energy-reduction, and alternative energy sources.
- Mentoring: Students may make a larger commitment to service with regular participation in an after-school community service activity. For example, students volunteer in an enrichment program at the Hebron Station Elementary School. One day a week, Hebron students mentor children, tutoring, playing games, and building connections.
- Fundraising:During the school year, students, faculty, administration, and staff participate in various fundraising projects for those in need in the local and global communities. Close to our hearts is the Little Field Home, an orphanage in Njata, Malawi founded by Hebron teacher, Janet Littlefield. Each summer Hebron students and faculty travel with Janet and her husband Bill Flynn (English teacher and basketball coach) to Malawi to live and work with the children in the orphanage.
