Sage Joyce came to Hebron three weeks into her freshman year, not knowing anyone, and eventually left. She transferred to a public school in Florida, and spent every day thinking about Hebron. She came back mid-sophomore year and hasn't looked back. For Sage, Hebron isn't where she goes to school. It's where she belongs. 

"Now Hebron really feels like home for me. It is my home."

Bullied and isolated at his old school, Alex came to Hebron looking for a fresh start, three time zones from home. He found a senior who helped him move in that first day and never stopped feeling welcomed since. Now a hockey player, proctor, and self-described mountain biker, Alex calls Hebron "the perfect place to make mistakes" and grow.

Natalie came to Hebron from Uganda searching for community, and she found it immediately: a welcome so warm she never sat alone. Now playing basketball and cross-country, she's built friendships from Croatia to New York. Naturally shy, she's grown more confident here. Hebron, she says, has become home away from home.

Barb grew up in Maine, spent two decades living abroad and in cities from New York to Baltimore, and came back to teach at Hebron. What she loves most about Hebron is what happens in the classroom: students from Nigeria, Israel, Germany, and Massachusetts reading the same books and having conversations that actually matter. At Hebron, the reading is hard, the writing is harder, and the alumni write back years later to say thank you.

Ceci came to Hebron from Newport, Rhode Island, as a vocalist, dancer, and trained performer. In her first year, she had an idea: find the Irish dancer on campus she'd never met, approach him cold, and create something together. They performed a ballroom dance piece for the whole school. "Being able to have that open opportunity, where I can go to somebody with an idea and that can happen, it really makes your dreams come true. Whatever you envision can come to life."

Peyton came to Hebron from Sterling, MA, wanting smaller classes and a tighter community. What she found was something harder to name.  “I think everybody kind of knows everybody here. You walk around campus and say hi to every teacher and every student. Everybody is rooting for each other. You see it in the stands, in the colors they wear, how loud they get.” Peyton arrived as one kind of athlete and left as something broader: a lacrosse, soccer, and hockey player who also found photography and printmaking along the way.

Ronan lives in the town next door. Three of his siblings went to Hebron before him. He has been a student here for seven years, played varsity hockey and lacrosse since freshman year, and watched every season change on this land more times than most people ever will. “No two weeks look the same,” he says. “You can be out here in the fall playing sports, and then a month later be up the mountain skiing with all your friends. The spring melt comes, the flowers bloom, and you’re back outside hiking and canoeing with your friends."
