Upper School Update 09/19-09/23

Upper School Update 09/19-09/23

Each fall, the College Board shares student successes with schools. I appreciate the chance to stand up in front of students and open the year with awards and recognitions. It’s a great way to start the year.

This week in Morning Meeting, we recognized two students who have received honors from the College Board National Recognition program, in conjunction with the National Merit Scholarship Program. More than 180,000 students from all 50 states were eligible for these recognitions, which grant students honors that can be included on college and scholarship applications. These two students have earned the National Rural and Small Town Award for their exceptional scores on the PSAT exam last October: Nola Goodwin and Abby McDonald

We also recognized Hebron Academy’s Advanced Placement Scholars for 2022. Some students were in the Morning Meeting, and some had graduated already.

Each year, the College Board recognizes AP Scholars at several different levels.

  • AP Scholars are those students who have earned a 3 or higher on three or more AP exams.

  • AP Scholars with Honor are students who have earned at an average of at least 3.25 on all exams taken and at least a score of 3 on four or more exams.

  • AP Scholars with Distinction are those who receive a score of 3.5 or higher on all exams taken and at least a score of 3 on five or more exams.

Each of these awards of distinction represent commitment to and hard work in Advanced Placement courses, solid preparation in courses leading to AP level coursework, and support and encouragement from home and teachers. It takes time, energy, and effort to be recognized with these awards.

This year, we are pleased to recognize these students who have already graduated from Hebron Academy:

  • Nicholas DiMarco, AP Scholar with Distinction, now attending Boston University

  • Julia Gregory, AP Scholar, now attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, studying biomedical engineering

  • Calvin Grover, AP Scholar with Distinction, now attending Princeton University and currently studying in Indonesia

  • Michael Levin, AP Scholar with Honor, now attending New York University

Additionally,  students who are still with us, all AP Scholars:

  • Nola Goodwin

  • Xiangru Aaron Han

  • Julia Lopo
