Upper School Updates Week 9

Upper School Updates Week 9

We’ve had a busy week! HALLOWEEN was a lot of fun as we were costumed on Friday, played horror movies all weekend long, hosted trick-or-treating, and had one last blast of holiday gear on Monday. We’ve also been appreciating Dr. Tobey’s display in the School Building honoring the Day of the Dead.

Congratulations to Manuela Anton and Jack Ngo, winners of this fall’s HEBRON WRITING CONTEST, “That Old September Feeling.” Each student wrote an essay that reflected upon the changing of the season and carried a theme of personal growth.

We’re also celebrating the END OF THE FALL SPORTS SEASON – senior nights for boys’ soccer, girls’ soccer, and field hockey occurred this week and the last home football game of the season is this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. vs. Pomfret. Field hockey also plays at home on Saturday, at 3:30 p.m. vs. Gould in the MAISAD semis – it should be a good game!

Remember that this weekend DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME ENDS. Our clocks “fall behind” by an hour on Sunday morning – which means that our evenings will be darker, faster. Outdoor sports practices will begin earlier in the afternoon to accommodate for the fading daylight.

In addition to daylight savings this WEEKEND, students can look forward to Friday afternoon trips to the Portland Museum of Art and (for the first time since COVID!) to the movies. Saturday offers a service trip to McLaughlin Garden and many events on campus (see games above) including a trivia challenge night for House points (should be exciting!). On Sunday, Girl Up is offering a workout time and there’s a trip planned to North Conway, NH.

On Monday, parents and guardians should look for the mid-semester release of ADVISOR COMMENTS – they should post at the end of the school day. We’ll send directions on how to access this communication on MyHebron. If you need help accessing MyHebron, remember that you can reach out to Mr. Andrew Crofton at technology@hebronacademy.org
