Athletics Update September 10th

Boys Varsity Soccer:

The varsity boys soccer team started their season off against a fast, physical, and well-coached Berwick Academy. The score was 0-0 at the half before Berwick found the net 10 minutes into the second half. Hebron played all the way to the final whistle. Even though we didn’t get the “W”, we have a lot to build on as we prepare for our next game at Hyde on Saturday, Sept. 18.

Girls Varsity Soccer:

Hebron Girls’ Varsity took the pitch for the first time in nearly two years. They came out and learned what it meant to be CHAMPIONS!! Champions don’t always win and have to fight through adversity to become the best. The Lumberjacks looked adversity in the eye and did not quit. They battled to the very end in a 7-0 loss to the mighty Bulldogs from down south. The whole team gets applause for not giving up and for not getting down on each other. Marta Assum (Sophomore from Frankfurt, Germany) brought a ferocity to the defense helping keep the score down. Lily Beauchesne (Junior from Lewiston, ME) also held tough on defense. The girls look forward to the next game at home versus Proctor on September 22.

Boys JV Soccer:

This was an excellent result for our first competitive game of the season. While there was certainly some rust after almost 2 years of no games, and a lot to work on in the coming weeks, I was very proud of the way our Hebron student/athletes composed themselves against a formidable Berwick team. We refused to give up on lost balls, used our deep bench to keep players fresh, and kept the pressure on Berwick’s defense from beginning to end. Our team has an undeniable chemistry that extends well beyond the field, and I look forward to what they will show us as the season progresses.
