Alumni Hockey Game & Pink the Rink

Alumni Hockey Game & Pink the Rink

Saturday, January 18, was a great day for Hebron Hockey. In addition to hosting alumni, parents, and students for the Alumni Hockey Game, Hebron students raised over $1,000 in funds for the Susan G. Komen Foundation to support breast cancer awareness and research.

In the newly refurbished Robinson Arena, alumni, faculty, and a few parents came together on the ice to form two teams and relive their Hebron Hockey moments. In two, 30 minute periods, faculty members Jake Cockrell, Tim Bonis and Head of School Patrick Phillips, represented Hebron today against past Hebron Hockey student-athletes, as well as former coaches Marc Roy '78, Jenny Agnew Ridley '99 and Louise Roy '05.

Of note, George Dycio '78 arrived in his 1970’s Hebron Academy goalie jersey and joined the community on the ice for the opening of the game. His Hebron jersey was matched with a custom made (up to code) Hebron Hockey mask matching his original mask given to him by coach Nat Harris. His presence on the ice and at the event was a highlight for Hebron Alumni.

George Dycio '78 was the most senior alumni at the event and even wore his original Hebron hockey jersey.

Several Hebron parents also dusted off their skates and modeled team spirit, athleticism and community for their students.

We were fortunate to have this event coincide with the Spirit Squad’s Pink the Rink event. Students, staff and parents arrived in pink ready to support the fundraising efforts and the community sold out of their pink Hebron Hockey shirts. We are also grateful to the students and staff who donated baked goods to raise funds and support our hungry students!

The event coincided with the student-led Pink the Rink event, fundraising for the Susan G. Komen foundation in support of breast cancer awareness.

New coaching staff, Head Coach Matt Lavallee and Head Girls Varsity Coach Greg Dumais were present throughout the long day eager to meet former students and learn about the history of Hebron Hockey. Long time facilities staff member and Zamboni driver Chuck Hall '80 dropped the puck to start the game.

The Boys Varsity Hockey team faced off against Portsmouth Abbey at 2 PM and the Girls Varsity Hockey team played against Mount St. Charles at 4 PM. The girls team fully embraced the Pink the Rink theme in custom pink Hebron jerseys. While they did not walk away with a victory on Saturday, both teams can be proud of their remarkable effort and also, the effort they put into cultivating a successful Pink the Rink event to be shared with our alumni community.
