On Sunday, November 3, 20 Hebron Academy Students participate in a DEIJB Empowerment workshop with a team from Bates College. We were thrilled to have The Multicultural Dialogue Project Team from Bates facilitate the workshop. The team was made up of Bates Psychology Professor Yun Garrison, staff member Fernando Rojas, and three students: Ellie Millard, Alex Kani, and Yuna Wu. Notably, Yuna Wu '21, a Hebron alumna, was thrilled to return to support her former school in this capacity. The goal of the workshop was to support people to feel confident, empowered, and connected to one another while sharing their experiences and perspectives, and interacting with role models. The workshop featured icebreakers, discussion with active listening, and empowerment package to encourage students to continue empowering themselves and those around them. Professor Yun Garrison from Bates College expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with Hebron students, stating, "My team and I are grateful to work with Hebron students as they grow into their fullest selves and celebrate their unique strengths as peer mentors and future leaders."
The goals of Hebron Academy's affinity groups are to provide support and fellowship for its identified members, provide space and opportunity for discussion on topics related to social justice, equity and inclusion, and acknowledge affinity-related contributions and achievements and share them with the greater community. Because these groups are inclusive, all members of the community are welcomed and invited to join.
