Each spring at Commencement we recognize the accomplishments of members of the Junior and Senior classes for academic excellence, extra-curricular accomplishments and leadership.
DR. LOUIS FRIEDMAN MATHEMATICS PRIZE
is a book given in memory of Dr. Louis Friedman to recognize excellence in mathematics by an underclass student. This year, the award is given to Youer 'Yuna' Wu '21.
L. EDWARD WILLARD PRIZE IN ENGLISH
is awarded to a member of the Junior Class to recognize outstanding accomplishment in English. In 2020, awarded to Olivia Ann Newell '21.
WILLIAM CHASE PRIZE IN HISTORY
is awarded to a member of the Junior Class for outstanding accomplishment in the study of United States History. In 2020, awarded to Emmett Grover '21.
COMPTON PRIZE IN LANGUAGES
is given to a Junior student for passion, persistence and accomplishment in the study of languages. Awarded to Katherine Grace Ducharme '21.
The following prizes and scholarships are presented to the school by several colleges, organizations and patrons to honor members of the Junior and Senior Classes.
The CORNELL BOOK AWARD
is presented by the Cornell Alumni Association of Maine to a member of the Junior Class who in academics has demonstrated intellectual curiosity, integrity and a passion for learning as well as dedication to his or her community, the potential for collaborative leadership, and who is a promising example of how an educated person may contribute to the world community. This year, awarded to Olivia Ann Newell '21.
The DARTMOUTH BOOK AWARD
is presented by the Dartmouth Alumni Club of Maine to a member of the Junior Class who combines academic excellence with outstanding accomplishment in another field such as fine arts and community endeavor. This year's recipient is Alaina M. Bonis '21.
The HARVARD BOOK PRIZES
are given by the Harvard Club of Boston to two outstanding members of the Junior Class who display excellence in scholarship and high character, combined with achievement in other fields. The winners of this award, through their intelligence and variety of achievement, exemplify Harvard's concern for excellence. In 2020, awarded to Amelia Grace Skelton '21 and Margaret Mason Skelton '21.
The RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE MEDAL
is given to a member of the Junior Class for excellence in Mathematics and Science. The award certificate and details of the medal program will be mailed directly to the recipient later in the summer.
This year, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Medal is awarded to Emmett Grover '21.
The WILLIAMS BOOK AWARD
is given by the Williams Alumni Association of Maine to a member of the Junior Class who has demonstrated academic and intellectual leadership, and who has contributed in a substantial fashion to the extracurricular life of the school. Awarded in 2020 to Katherine Grace Ducharme '21.
We are pleased to announce two awards that particularly honor the contributions of five underclass students to our Hebron community:
Three special students came to Hebron this year under the auspices of the ASSIST Program to spend an exchange year with us and to enrich our lives by their presence. We thank Stina Gunnarson, Philip Ernst and Jacob Fisher for everything they have shared with us this year and to wish them the best in years to come.
The COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP PRIZES
are given by the Hebron Community in memory of Charlotte Stonebraker, Librarian of Hupper Library for more than two decades, and are awarded annually to two deserving students who have made positive contributions to the Hebron Community and who will be returning to Hebron. This year’s recipients are Sahara Ann McKay '21 and Cora Lee Younk '21.
The following presentations represent special program awards for excellence and scholarships that are made possible by friends and patrons of the school:
Congratulations to André Reis Meira do Nascimento '20 on being named a recipient of a Mosiac Scholarship Award from Calvin University in Michigan.
We commend and recognize three members of the Senior Class for standing up and speaking out to make our school a safer place for all. Their outstanding dedication to Hebron's GSTA, Southern Maine GLSEN (the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network), and on the national level has set an example for us all. Our community celebrates the commitment of Oliver Toussaint Pittman '20, Dăng Minh Hanh '20 and Gwendolyn Kimball Randall '20.
The INTERNATIONAL PRIZE
is presented to an English as a Second Language student who has excelled in the classroom, who has contributed significantly to the life of the school and who has enriched our community by befriending all and fully sharing in community life. In 2020, awarded to Mario Marquina Hernández '20.
The OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP PRIZE
is presented to a student who exhibits kindness to others, self-respect and self-sufficiency, the ability to make and execute difficult decisions, and a profound concern for the natural environment. This year the recipient is Peter Alexander Porrino '20.
The AWARD FOR HUMANITY AND SOCIAL JUSTICE
is given to a member of the Hebron Community who has in word and deed shown exceptional commitment to preserving and expanding acceptance and tolerance of all persons regardless of race, color, or religion; gender, age, or ancestry; physical or mental disability or sexual orientation. Awarded to Oliver Toussaint Pittman '20.
The TYLER / GRANDSMAISON SCHOLARSHIP
supporting early success in college is underwritten by the MELMAC Foundation and is given to a graduating senior from the State of Maine who has overcome obstacles and has made a positive contribution to the school community and extra-curricular activities, has demonstrated a commitment to public service and has the potential to make a difference in the world. Awarded in 2020 to Neely Shae Pittman '20.
The REGIS A. LEPAGE SCHOLARSHIP PRIZE
is given by Lepage Bakeries of Auburn, Maine in honor of Regis A. Lepage, a generous supporter of post-secondary study for young people in the belief that strength comes through education. The prize is awarded to a student at Hebron Academy from the surrounding area. Awarded in 2020 to Joseph Michael Godomsky '20.
The BERNAT MEMORIAL AWARD
is a book given by the parents of Emile Robert Bernat of the Class of 1960 to be awarded annually to a Senior for further studies in the humanities. The 2020 recipient is Liliana Sophie Ball '20.
The LORIMER SCHOLARSHIP PRIZE
is given in memory of Louise Pinkham Lorimer, descendant of William Barrows, an innovative woman of theater and film, advocate for the environment, and devoted summer resident of the Hebron community. The prize honors a young woman pursuing her education in theater or environmental sciences. In 2020, awarded to Keilah Embryana Strahan '20.

The SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP PRIZE
is given for outstanding excellence in general scholarship for the Class of 2020. Awarded to Armandeep Singh '20.
The REED AWARDS
are given to an outstanding young man and woman in recognition of fine spirit, improvement in skill, devotion to athletic teams, and an unselfish determination to contribute to Hebron's athletic success. In 2020, the recipients are Ainsley Adelaide King '20 and Joseph Michael Godomsky '20.
The BESSIE FENN AWARD
is given for superior performance in the field of athletics, outstanding cooperation, leadership and fair play. Awarded to Thekla Cila Wiede Jubinville '20.
The ATHLETIC AWARD
is given for superior performance in the field of athletics, outstanding cooperation, leadership and fair play. In 2020, awarded to Jack Robert Kelley '20.
The LEYDEN AWARD
honors a senior who has grown as a person and as a student, and whose concern for others and for the Hebron community exemplifies the care and contributions of the Leyden family for more than forty years. This year’s recipient is Gwendolyn Kimball Randall '20.
The EDWARD TATE II GREEN KEY AWARD
is a book to be given in the name of Edward Henry Tate II of the Class of 1957 to honor a member of the Senior Class for his/her marked qualities of humanity. In 2020, awarded to Dăng Minh Hanh '20.
The ERNEST SHERMAN AWARD
is presented in memory of Ernest "Jack" Sherman, for many years chef-steward of Hebron Academy, to a member of the Hebron Academy community who best exhibits dedication to Hebron Academy and personal concern for fellow students and the community. Awarded this year to Benjamin Cabe Hathaway '20.
The CHARLES AND AMY DWYER MEMORIAL AWARD
honors the memory of Charles C. and Amy M. Dwyer who were members of the Hebron Academy community for more than half a century; he as a student, teacher, coach, and she as tutor, counselor and librarian. The prize is awarded to an outstanding scholar-athlete. This year the recipient is Lindsey Elizabeth Beiche '20.
The MILTON G. WHEELER GOOD FELLOWSHIP AWARD
is given in honor of Milton G. Wheeler of the Class of 1927 in order to recognize a member of the Senior Class for highest standards of citizenship and integrity. Awarded in 2020 to Aarti Pooran Singh '20.
The PHEMISTER AWARD
is a book from the funds given in memory of David Kent Phemister II, President of the Class of 1962, by his friends and classmates to honor a Senior who has shown outstanding leadership and responsibility. In 2020 awarded to Emily Elizabeth McCarthy '20.
The RISMAN HONOR AWARD
honors Edward R. Risman of the Class of 1930, to distinguish a member of the Senior Class whose diligence of academic accomplishment, determination in athletic endeavor and outstanding good character merited recognition. This year’s recipient is Ellena Lynn Frumiento '20.
The HEBRON ACADEMY CUP
is given to that member of the Senior Class who in the opinion of the faculty represents the finest spirit of scholastic effort, who has in organized school activity shown a high degree of excellence, and who has in all relations with the school community shown a commendable spirit of devotion, high ideals, friendliness, endeavor and responsibility which qualities Hebron Academy holds in the highest esteem. In 2020, the Hebron Cup is awarded to Kenneth Patrick Mills '20.
