Four Hebron students participated in a virtual conference on Monday 5/3 called, "Democracy in a Pandemic". The participants were Jackson O'Brien, Tucker Kenney, Dylan Brand, and Caden Violette. The guiding question for the conference was: "To what extent should we be prepared to surrender basic liberties and freedom for the greater good?" The students were able to enjoy several keynote speakers including Joeseph Cohn from the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education and Dr. Matthew Hipps, a political science professor. Students then broke up into smaller groups with students from around the world at other Round Square schools for more in-depth discussions.
"I found the speakers fascinating, especially when they spoke about the legal precedents that apply to the Covid-19 situation and free speech. The discussions in breakout rooms went very well too and the small number of people kept it active and involved everyone."
