We are proud to announce that once again Hebron students have performed well in the Scholastic Writing Awards. These awards are considered among the most prestigious that a high-school writer can receive (Maine’s own Stephen King won one as a teenager!). Competing in a large Northeast region against thousands of peers, five Lumberjacks were honored with seven awards:
Olivia Newell: Honorable Mention in the Personal Essay category
Gwen Randall: Honorable Mention in Writing Portfolio
Emmett Grover: Silver Key for one Critical Essay, as well as Honorable Mention for another Critical Essay
Thekla Jubinville: Silver Key in the Flash Fiction category
Oliver Pittman: Gold Key for Personal Essay, as well as Honorable Mention in Critical Essay
Fun facts: Thekla’s award is Hebron’s first for the Flash Fiction genre; Gwen has been honored three years in a row; and Oliver’s Gold Key-winning Personal Essay now moves into the national round of competition. Congratulations to all our winners, and heartfelt thanks to all who submitted entries this year. Happy writing!
