This Week in HAMS- Week 10

This Week in HAMS- Week 10

We have completed our 10th week of classes! HAMS students continue to keep busy with classes and activities.  As the fall sports season winds down, we encourage students to look ahead to the winter sports and activity season which begins after Thanksgiving break. Students were recently sent a survey which asks them to list their preference for an activity for the winter season. Until then, we encourage students to focus on their academics and also participate in the HAMS food drive! Advisory letters, which recap each student’s progress so far, along with midpoint grades, are now available on MyHebron.

HAMS Food Drive

Mrs. Hanby’s advisory group has planned a food drive for the entire Middle School. We will make it a friendly competition with the 6th and 7th graders competing against the 8th graders for the most food brought in. Participating students will earn house points, and the winning group will earn a pizza and/or ice cream party before winter break. We will have boxes on the 3rd floor of the school building and we encourage students to bring in non-perishable foods in unopened cans, boxes or bags. All collected food will be distributed to a local food pantry.

Fall semester midpoint

In the next week, we reach the midpoint of fall semester. Time feels like it’s moved so quickly! Students are getting reminders from teachers to hand in missing work and classes are hitting some major tests and assignments. Now is a good time to take a look at your student’s grades in MyHebron and share successes and challenges with them. Remember, here’s how to access your student’s class information:

  1. Log in to MyHebron

  2. Click on your student’s name in the upper left of the screen (if you have more than one student at Hebron, you will find a drop-down menu of names here)

  3. You should be directed to the Progress tab

  4. Scroll down to the Courses section

  5. Click on the “See grade detail” tab in the first course to see individual grades and comments that the teacher has left

  6. Select “Next Course” at the bottom of the pop-up window to advance to the next course in the alphabetical list

Travel Plans

Leading up to Thanksgiving Break, we are getting several questions about travel plans for students – to demystify the process a little, here are three different categories of travel for students that you should be aware of:

WEEKEND TRAVEL: If you are interested in taking your boarding student (or any boarding student) off campus for a weekend, reach out to Dean of Students Mrs. Mae Applegate (mapplegate@hebronacademy.org) when you are formulating your plans. Plans for students traveling off campus for the weekend should be finalized the Wednesday prior to departure.

SPORTS TRAVEL: If your student (boarding or day) is traveling for an independent sporting event, please connect through the Athletic Director Mr. Caddy Brooks (cbrooks@hebronacademy.org). Plans for off-campus travel should be finalized two days before departure.

BREAK TRAVEL: For the upcoming Thanksgiving Break, students will see a survey requesting their travel plans from the Director of Residential Life Mr. Zach Hensley this week. Students will share their plans for this break, and the Res Life office will confirm plans with parents. Look for an email from travel@hebronacademy.org in the coming weeks. Parents should respond to confirm their students’ travel plans. Look for similar emails shortly about Winter Break. If you have any questions about your student’s long distance travel at any time, you can email travel@hebronacademy.org

Absences

Any student absences should be communicated to attendance@hebronacademy.org

Thank you for helping us keep track of our students!

Carpool information

We have had parents ask about the potential for carpooling to and from school with other families. Any families interested in carpooling and willing to share their contact information are welcome to fill out the carpool information spreadsheet

Fall Writing Contest Winner

Congratulations to Alexandra Hounsell for being selected as the winner of the HAMS division of the fall writing contest for her poem, “Another beginning”.
