Winter Writing Contest Winners Announced

The Hebron Academy English department is pleased to share that Jenni Flynn, Sahara Mckay and Olivia Newell are the winners for the most recent Hebron Writing Contest! For the winter writing contest, students were asked to reflect on the greatest gift they have ever given or received. A winning essay or poem was chosen for the middle school (grades 6th-8th), 9th-10th graders, and 11th-PG students. Winning essays are displayed in the English hallway on the second floor of the School Building and are featured in The Hebron Review, our student-produced magazine and blog. As a prize, winners receive a $15.00 gift certificate to the Student Union.

The Hebron Writing Contest was started six years ago by members of the English department to help generate, promote, and recognize the incredible student voices in our community.  The English department sponsors five contests throughout the school year. Contests are usually organized around a particular theme, but students are encouraged to take the prompt in a great variety of directions; in fact, winning essays are usually ones that push the boundaries and respond to the prompt in a creative and original way. Essays and poems are both accepted. The first Hebron Writing Contest of each school year is often thematically linked to the all-school summer read, and topics branch out in many directions after that.
