Purpose Statement
Rooted in Maine, we cultivate trailblazers.
Rooted in Maine, we cultivate trailblazers.

Rooted: We have been growing and thriving on this campus and this land since 1804. We have meaningful traditions that connect us to our past. Standing among the oldest independent schools in New England, we have a strong foundation on which to build in our third century of existence.

In: We’re all in! We are engaged, interested, and eager to connect with our community. We see each other, we support each other, and we contribute to the life of the school.

Maine: We embrace all that Maine has to offer — hiking and skiing in the rugged mountains; wandering on paths through woods; scrambling up rocks and trees; absorbing the stillness of a pond at sunrise; marveling at the glorious chaos of colors on the trees in autumn; exploring the charm of coastal towns and inland villages; exhilarating at the sight of blue skies in all seasons.

We: We are an intentionally close community where relationships are reinforced through shared experiences and where every person is inspired to share the wealth of their talents and expertise with the broader population. We recognize the individual as the base of the community and the community as the foundation of the individual. We are inclusive, we work together, we affirm each other. This is the way we wish to live at Hebron — celebrating that we are a community first and foremost.

Cultivate: We deliberately nurture our community on campus, creating the physical and emotional spaces for our students and faculty to flourish. With openness, friendliness, and a cheerful smile, we foster a welcoming culture that both provides the substance needed for growth and the challenge necessary to stimulate development.

Trailblazers: We guide our students to find their own path, setting them up to navigate their future with confidence. By supporting students to find their authentic voice, explore their interests with passion, search for connections between academic disciplines, and pioneer their own approaches to solving unique problems, we help individuals traverse the vicissitudes of adolescence with purpose and direction.
