Hebron Academy celebrates diversity and welcomes international students from all over the world. Our family-style community currently includes students from many countries. Students choose Hebron Academy for the balance of challenging academics, competitive athletics, visual and performing arts, a strong sense of community, and individualized attention for college placement.

In preparation for college, students from abroad learn how to write “American- style” essays, how to work with teachers, and how to participate actively in seminar classes. Hebron teachers, dorm parents, and college counselors have extensive experience working with international students. The English as a Second Language Program at Hebron Academy integrates listening, speaking, reading and writing. Cultural heritage and previous language experience of the international students are celebrated as resources in our multidimensional and diverse program.

The three levels in the ESL program—Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced—are designed to meet the needs of a variety of students and allow greater flexibility in their transition to our school. In addition, our program offers ESL support in different academic areas including English and Literature, Mathematics, Science and History.

For those students interested in attending college in the United States, college counselors begin the process of application during the Junior year, working closely with students to help them prepare their application lists and materials. Counselors work with students and families to find the best colleges and universities based on student strengths, academic history, and interests.

Hebron’s international students have received admission from such colleges and universities as
the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia, the University of Michigan, the University of Chicago, and Cornell among many others. Our International Program Director works with students to support the transition to Hebron. The Director advises international students, assists families with travel and host family arrangements, and plans programs such as Orientation, American Thanksgiving and international dinners.

Moreover, each year the school offers an International travel opportunity that will help students use their language skills and develop a cultural understanding of diverse regions in the world. Past trips have included travel to Costa Rica, France, China, Scotland, Thailand and Spain.
