The English Language Summer Institute (ELSI)

Being proficient in English can be an advantage in many ways. It is the language of international business, science, and diplomacy. Learning or improving English during a few weeks in the summer can also have many advantages. By experiencing ELSI, you can:
  • Prepare for the upcoming academic year and future exams
  • Increase your confidence
  • Broaden your understanding of U.S. culture
  • Make new friends from around the world
Hebron Academy’s English Language Summer Institute (ELSI) extends the school’s mission statement of “Hebron Academy inspires and guides students to reach their highest potential in mind, body, and spirit” beyond the school year for nonnative English speakers.
Hebron Academy boasts more than 200 years as one of New England’s finest college preparatory boarding schools. Acres of well-kept grounds and a professional quality Athletic Center add to the school’s attractiveness.

Experience ELSI through Exploration

Uniquely human, language brings people together. It is best learned in a natural environment of human interaction. No vocabulary list or test preparation can substitute for the desire of one person wanting to share ideas with another. At Hebron's ELSI, we offer experiences in and out of the classroom to foster English language acquisition.
Also known as “Vacationland,” Maine enjoys some of the nation’s most scenic vistas with its coastal towns and mountain trails. Hebron Academy’s ELSI makes the most of its natural surroundings to provide authentic opportunities to learn and practice English through guided interactions on and off campus. ELSI maintains academic rigor while providing a summer camp atmosphere.

Students will become more proficient, more comfortable, and more confident in their English skills.

ELSI Objective:

Students will learn and apply specific skills and knowledge such as English pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary, as well as public speaking and academic writing.

ELSI Experience:

  • museums
  • the beach
  • shopping and restaurants
