"Lessons are always full of happiness and laughter. Teachers here help students do their work and want them to learn. The wicked good thing about Hebron Academy is the teachers. They never give up on students. They want them to learn but to have fun. When students are happy, Hebron Academy teachers are happy."
- Jun Wang, Former ELSI student
Activities and fieldwork are scheduled daily as part of the learning and community-building experience. Students spend part of each day working on language-learning, team-building, and problem-solving skills through interactive activities. Of course, students also have time for relaxation and recreation.
Explore and experience the ocean. Discover one of Maine’s most famous exports -- lobsters -- by spending a day on the ocean trapping and hauling and of course eating lobsters.

Explore New England’s seafaring traditions. Discover and use directions, idioms, and vocabulary by sailing on a schooner and actually manning the ropes.

Explore and experience the Maine woods. Discover why Maine is also called the "Pine Tree State" and how so many products start from the Maine woods by spending a day with local loggers and on site of a local lumber mill. Hebron Academy’s very own mascot, the Lumberjack, comes from this logging tradition.

Explore nature by camping overnight at one of Maine's many state parks. Discover the importance and pleasure of communication and teamwork by hiking trails, setting up camp, and telling stories around a campfire.

Explore and experience the history of Maine and the United States. Discover what New England life was like 100 years ago by spending a day at a nearby Living History Center. Expert historians in full costume and character share New England’s rich heritage in a way that can’t be found in a textbook.

Explore the Freedom Trail in nearby Boston. Discover the historically and culturally rich traditions of our nation's beginning. Of course there is no shortage of shopping, restaurants, and museums in this bustling city.
All students are assessed on their English proficiency upon arrival in the domains of listening, speaking, reading, and writing with a standardized instrument researched and validated for reliability. As students participate in ELSI’s interactive program, they will notice gains in their scores and skills by the conclusion of the program. More importantly, they will gain confidence and ease in their English as they meet new people and make new friends.
