The Hebron Academy Board of Trustees announced that it will move forward with several new campus projects that will significantly enhance the quality of the student academic and athletic experience. These new construction projects include the Kaneb Center for Science and Engineering, the expansion of Robinson Ice Arena, and a synthetic turf field.
The Kaneb Center for Science and Engineering will be dedicated to the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) disciplines. The state-of-the-art facility will make possible new opportunities in design, engineering, robotics, artificial intelligence, and environmental sciences. The building itself will be a teaching tool--sustainably designed with highly-efficient building products including the heating and cooling systems. “We’re excited about this project!” commented Head of School Dan Marchetti. “It has been in the works a long time, and it is wonderful to see it coming to fruition. Site work will start on the Kaneb Center in June. The 5,000 square foot facility is expected to be ready for occupancy in January 2019.”
Furthermore, in July Phase Two construction will begin on Robinson Arena. Phase One, completed last summer, included new dasher boards, tempered glass, as well as a new dehumidification system and low emissivity ceiling insulation. Phase Two will expand the southeast end of the building for two spacious locker rooms and a heated elevated viewing area for fans, making Robinson Arena one of the finest facilities of its kind in New England.
Lastly, a turf field will be installed over the football field. The new turf field will be a multi-use surface allowing for training in virtually all weather conditions. This will provide longer training time and preseason activities for spring athletics. Construction is set to begin in July.
According to Paul Goodof, Chair of the Board of Trustees, “These projects are donor-funded, and we are humbled and grateful by the generosity of our loyal alumni/ae. The funding is in place to make these transformational projects a reality, and we look forward with pride to seeing construction begin.”
The architectural work for the Kaneb Center has been completed by SMRT Architects and Engineers of Portland. The design work for Robinson Arena was completed by MacLaughlin Management and Design LLC, aka “The Rink Pros.” Hebron has selected Hebert Construction of Lewiston to build the Kaneb Center and construct the expansion of Robinson Arena. The turf field is being built by Net Sports Group of Saco.
Marchetti added, “These major construction projects will keep Hebron on an ascending trajectory. The entire school community is excited for the future. We express our sincere appreciation to those who have made these projects possible. We look forward to continued momentum as we boldly move forward to modernize our campus while not losing sight of the significant history at Hebron.”
