Lumberjacks in Full Force for Elmira's Women's Hockey Team

By: Lumberjack Athletics
Kiana Melvin '16 and Eliza Beaudin '18 have taken their hockey careers to Elmira College, and the Soaring Eagles have opened up the 2018-19 campaign with big wins and currently hold the #1 spot in the national rankings for Division III.

The Soaring Eagles opened their season with a rematch of the 2018 national championship game when they hosted Norwich University. Elmira earned a 4-2 win to avenge the tough loss from the end of the last campaign. In their opening games of their conference schedule, the purple and gold earned a sweep of Neumann College with 7-1 and 2-1 victories on back-to-back nights on the road. Beaudin's first collegiate goal came in the first period of the 7-1 win. The eventual game-winner was assisted by Melvin as the former Lumberjacks teamed up for yet another goal in their hockey careers.

Beaudin added a second goal to her tally in the third period, and her two goals earned her Rookie of the Week honors from the United Collegiate Hockey Conference. Elmira will play another two-game series this weekend in conference play. Lebanon Valley comes to town for a night game on Friday and an afternoon game on Saturday, November 10th. The puck will drop on Friday at 7:00pm in the Murray Athletic Center in Pine Valley, NY.
