5 Boarding School Life Hacks

5 Boarding School Life Hacks

So, you want to be ahead of the curve when you arrive to Hebron? Read up and take notes, because the following 5 Boarding School Life Hacks will help you adjust and acclimate to life at Hebron.

  1. Come with an open mind, and commit to your new endeavors! This principal is at the top of our list because, well, it's the most important. When you arrive at Hebron, you’ll be faced with many new challenges, and the best advice I can give is to embrace them! Whether you’re trying skiing for the first time, or meeting your new roommate from another country, embrace the change. Its here where you will grow the most.

  2. Make your bed comfortable! As a former boarding school student myself, I realized after my first year that I needed a comfortable bed! Surprisingly, our second boarding school hack goes hand in hand with our first. Mentaly, knowing you have a comfortable bed to fall into at the end of the day encourages you to put everything you have into your school work, after school sports, and extracurricular activities. What does this mean? Bring a sheets, an appropriate pillow (or pillows), a down comforter, and a fan for the warmer months or if you're like me and like a little white noise to fall asleep to!

  3. GET. OFF. CAMPUS. On any given weekend, we offer trips to get students off campus- whether its a trip to the Old Port in Portland, Dog Sledding, skiing and snowboarding, ice climbing, trips to the beach… the list goes on and on… Get yourself off campus and try new things. When you look back on your time at Hebron after you graduate, you’ll remember the time you did a sunrise trip to Higgins Beach, and not necessarily playing video games in your room :).

  4. Bring warm clothes. A seemingly simple concept, but one we can’t stress enough! Coming to Hebron prepared for the colder weather in the winter months will allow you to get outside and enjoy our beautiful surroundings! Keep an eye out for a pack list in a forthcoming Hebron Awaits, but for starters you’ll want to bring winter gloves, a winter jacket, snow pants, and a warm hat. You’ll thank me in January :).

  5. Last but not least, HAVE FUN! You’re going to work hard when you’re here, but that doesn't mean you can’t have a little fun while doing it. With the passage of time, you’ll gain more perspective and come to realize that your years at Hebron will be some of the most formative of your life. Only makes sense to enjoy the ride while you’re here!
