Reminder: Cell Phone Policy

Hebron students are not only permitted to have cellular telephones on campus, they are encouraged to do so! Beyond being a great way to stay in touch with friends, cell phones are important for safety reasons. In particular, students must be capable of making and receiving calls within the U.S. when they travel off-campus for any school trip. This requires international students to either have a U.S. SIM card or an international calling plan. WhatsApp and WeChat are not sufficient, as those apps only work when the individual has access to WiFi. Hebron can help facilitate the purchase of U.S.-based SIM cards after students arrive, but it is preferable that students arrive on campus with those items beforehand. Students who wait until they get to campus will be provided with a few options by the school's third-party cellular service provider, and the cost of the option they select will be charged to their student account.

Hebron also knows that cell phone use in the learning environment has been shown to negatively affect students’ academic performance, and excessive cell phone use has been shown to negatively impact young people’s confidence and mental health. So while we ask that students bring their cell phones with them to campus, we also provide education around healthy technology use, and we ask that students leave their phones in their bags or in their rooms during the school day.

In summary: bring your phone, make sure you can make calls while in the U.S....but don't bring your phone to class!\
