Hebron Academy Break Travel Policy

Hebron Academy Break Travel Policy

While many families in the region and even abroad choose to drop off and pick up their students directly to and from campus, the 2022-23 Student Activities Fee does cover school-provided transportation for students between campus and the following transportation hubs during designated travel periods:

Portland International Jetport (PWM)

Flying into Portland International Jetport (PWM) is the most convenient way to get to campus if traveling from outside the Northeast region. Flights departing through PWM should be scheduled no earlier than three (3) hours into the designated travel period. For example, if the departure window begins at 12pm, flights out of PWM should be scheduled no earlier than 3pm. Otherwise, families will have to pay to hire a private car service to take their child to the airport.

Logan International Airport (BOS)

Some students flying internationally or as unaccompanied minors (UMs) may need to fly through Logan International Airport (BOS) in Boston, MA, in order to find flights. Due to the distance from the school, students traveling through BOS should expect significant additional travel time based on the availability of school vehicles and staffing, as well as the overall schedule of student arrivals.

In some cases, the school may use a transportation service such as Concord Coach Lines to help transport students to/from the airport via a transportation center closer to campus. For example, a staff member might meet an arriving student at the airport, transfer them to a Concord Coach bus, then another staff member would pick them up from the bus terminal in Maine. The reverse might happen, as needed, for a departure.

Flights departing through BOS should be scheduled no earlier than five (5) hours into the designated travel period. For example, if the departure window begins at 12pm, flights out of BOS should be scheduled no earlier than 5pm. Otherwise families will have to pay to hire a private car service to take their child to the airport.

Unaccompanied Minors (UMs)

Many airlines require individuals under the age of fifteen (15) years who are traveling without an adult to register as “unaccompanied minors” (UMs). Before putting your child on the plane, you will need to provide information about who will be picking your child up from PWM or BOS. Similarly, for returning home, we will need information on who will be picking your child up from their destination airport, as well as the confirmation number/code from the airline for your booking. If your child is traveling as a UM, please be sure to pay all applicable fees in advance and be in close communication with the school regarding your child’s travel plans and any changes.

Family Members

Hebron Academy does not provide transportation for family members traveling with their students. Families traveling together must provide their own transportation.
