Alumni Spotlight: Kainani Stevens '11

Kainani is a motivated multimedia journalist with a passion for sports and telling a good story. She has been covering professional sports teams in New England for the last nine years and is currently freelancing as a Digital Host for Locked on Network.

Kainani graduated from Hebron in ‘07. She attended Northeastern and graduated in ‘11 with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Communications Studies. Her career began as a Production Assistant with the New England Sports Network. From 2012 to 2018 she worked as a News Anchor and Broadcaster, first with Meridian and then ABC Morning News in Rhode Island. In 2018 she became a full-time News Anchor with FOX 61 in Connecticut. At FOX, Kainani reported, filmed, wrote and edited daily sports packages. She also anchored the bi-weekly sports show "FOX 61 Sports Ticket." A highlight for her during her time at FOX was covering UConn athletics during their Championship seasons. This past October, Kainani became the Host for the digital platform “Locked” on Podcasts. She recaps the latest in the NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB and college sports every day.  On April 28th she will be broadcasting the NFL draft live from Dallas, Texas. Kainani will be a presenter for the Career Connections event, also on April, 28th. She will meet with a group from the class ‘22 via the miracles of technology to tell them about her career and her day ahead.

Kainani’s favorite Hebron memories include French class and field trips with Ms. Reedy and creative writing in Ms. Burns’ English classes. On the athletic front, four MAISAD softball championships and, in her senior year of basketball, a Maine State playoff run. And of course, breakfast sandwiches from the Union.
